That said, I didn't realize there was a new post and I apologize!

[series]: Harry Potter
[character]: Harry Potter
[character history / background]: Harry James Potter was born in July 31, 1980 to parents James and Lily Potter. Though James was a hero in his own right, Harry would inevitably go on to become one of the most notable heroes of the wizarding world—as famous as, if not more famous, than the famous Albus Dumbledore. The first year of Harry’s life was spent in hiding in a house in Godric’s Hollow. The village itself was actually the root of his ancestors—not the Gryffindors, but the Peverells. Their graves were located at this site, but overall, it seemed to be the most logical place of hiding. James hated hiding there and often snuck off, as Lily related to Sirius in writing, but he was a good father and he doted on his son. Lily did the same level of doting. They were a normal family by many extents of the imagination—a father, a wife, a son, and a cat. But they were in hiding, held in secrecy by the fidelius charm, and only Peter Pettigrew knew the location.

Pettigrew knowing the location worked against them the most.

Three months after his first birthday—to the date—Lord Voldemort showed up at the Potter home. James attempted to fight Voldemort off on his own, but without his wand his efforts were futile. Voldemort followed Lily into the room with Harry and attempted to give Lily reason to stay alive for the sake of Severus Snape. However, Lily Potter was an obstinate woman and would not allow for her son to die. Her protection was granted to Harry in her final moments, and was one of the main reasons why he lived. The other reason was that a piece of Voldemort’s soul slipped inside of Harry. The mark of this occurrence existed in a scar on the boy’s forehead, though he was unaware of its importance for a good portion of his life—that is, until he turned eleven.

On the night of his parents’ death, Harry was brought to Petunia and Vernon Dursley’s house for them to raise Petunia’s sister’s son. There was a letter that directly stated that Harry needed to enjoy his time of living with the Dursleys so that Lily’s protection would continue to extend over him. However, the Dursleys were an extremely judgmental—and even jealous—couple that looked at Harry as a monster and a nuisance. Instead of welcoming him into their home and raising him as one of their own along side their son Dudley, they had him live in the cupboard under the stairs. He did chores; he cooked; he cleaned. Many of the things that boys don’t even learn how to do if their mothers nag him were the chores that he often had to perform.

Aside from the ridicule at home, Potter, like many Muggleborn children that would go on to learn just how different they are, went to school and received quite a bit of mocking. His clothing, hand-me-downs from Dudley, was much too large. His glasses broke often. He also was the cause for numerous circumstances, including the time that he ended up on the roof of the school. He was a “bad kid” because of all these weird occurrences, and his ability to draw attention to himself made him even more of a bother to the Dursleys. They abused him more because of the bullying and his accidental—and, though he didn’t know yet, magical—reactions to all these events.

For the most part, Harry had no choice but to take this in stride. He had a bit of a sharp tongue on him and he knew it was wrong that they were treating him that way. He wasn’t thankful for their treatment, but he didn’t believe he had way of getting out of it. But all of that changed around his eleventh birthday. Not long after the destructive trip to the zoo where he spoke to the Brazilian snake that broke free after Harry accidentally removed the glass, numerous owls started arriving at the Dursley home. Vernon took every effort to avoid these owls from the mysterious Hogwarts—including boarding up the house—but he failed in these efforts. Eventually, the family went to get a house away from where they lived, but even that failed—as Hagrid showed up.

A giant of a man, the man came in and surprised Harry and his family quite a bit. He was disgusted by the behavior and treatment of the Dursleys and ended up informing Harry about his family. The end of the circumstance left Dudley with a pigtail and Harry finally understanding the full gravity of his life. He took down a horrible person named Voldemort; he was going to go to a new school; he had a whole life that he never knew about. He was a hero. All of it was a little overwhelming, but Harry took it in stride (the best he could, but he was always good about that). He went to Diagon Alley with Hagrid that day to be greeted by many admiring fans. But even more, he learned about the wizarding world—both the good parts and the bad parts (the latter thanks to the aid of one Draco Malfoy). Afterward, he had to return home until September 1 and the start of his first year at Hogwarts.

The first year of Hogwarts for Harry was trying. He had a difficult, if nervous, Defense Against Dark Arts professor, but he first experienced what it was like to have a lot of fame tossed on his shoulders. From his very first day, though, he seemed to reject many of the possibilities of that fame through rejecting any kind of friendship with Draco Malfoy. The idea of being around someone like that disgusted Harry, and he found himself falling into a rather easy friendship with Ronald Weasley rather immediately. He and Ron got on rather well with one another on the train, though they found themselves immediately ridiculing the girl named Hermione Granger. She was, in many ways, a know-it-all. She was bossy and had read all of the books, and seemed as if she knew better than them—and always would. They were eleven-year-old boys who didn’t take very well to that, and almost immediately chose to avoid her as a result.

After the first train ride, Harry went to be sorted, and being sorted was one of the most impacting experiences of his life. While many are tossed between houses, Harry found himself wavering between Gryffindor and Slytherin. The Sorting Hat seemed convinced that he would make a very good Slytherin, but Harry chose Gryffindor—and thus, seemed to choose his fate. He found himself a very capable member of Gryffindor fairly early on. He was noble and he got in a lot of trouble; he was courageous and he cared for his friends (once he started earning them—he didn’t have many back home due to the ridicule). It was very much what Harry needed.

But it was not intellectual prowess or bravery that immediately earned Harry even more fame among his fellow Gryffindors, but his quidditch abilities. After a flying lesson where he ended up having to fly against Draco Malfoy, Harry proved himself to be a more than capable—and even natural—flyer for the team. McGonagall requested that he play for the team and even purchased him the best broom available. He went on to aid Gryffindor quite a bit that year, even if they didn’t have complete success at the end. Known as one of the best Seekers to ever come into Hogwarts, he was made to seem much like his father—who had also been a quidditch star, even if he was a Chaser.

[series]: Naruto
[character]: Nara Shikamaru
[character history / background]: Here, for a more detailed version of his history.

In his Academy days, Shikamaru had always been a poor student by choice. Though smart (his IQ was later discovered to be over 200), Shikamaru never saw the point in taking exams, much less going to school. So instead, he had always slept through exams, netting him grades that were almost as bad as Naruto's (who always scored at the bottom of his class). When he finally graduates from the Academy, Shikamaru is placed into Team 10 under Sarutobi Asuma, with teammates Yamanaka Ino and Akimichi Chouji. By the first year of his training, his team was recommended to take part in the Chuunin exam, and albeit grudgingly, he took part in it.

Although the Chuunin exam was interrupted by Sound nin (in which he pretended to be unconscious through, because he figured helping out would be too troublesome), Shikamaru was the only that was promoted into a Chuunin that year. Later on he leads a mission with Naruto, Neji, Chouji, and Kiba in order to retrieve Sasuke, but fails. Upon the mission's conclusion, Shikamaru is hit hard by the fact that the mission had failed and that his entire team had been heavily hospitalized (Chouji, especially), with the exception of himself. Upon his friends' recoveries, Shikamaru resolves to do better.

In two and a half year's time, Shikamaru has taken on more responsibilities as a Chuunin—quite the contrary to his previous, lazy self. He is deployed in order to track down and capture Akatsuki members Hidan and Kakuzu. This mission not only results in failure, but of Asuma's death, which Shikamaru takes into heart. After Asuma's funeral, he decides to go after Hidan and Kakuzu once again; this time, using the information that he had gathered during Asuma's previous battle with the Akatsuki, Shikamaru permanently buries Hidan deep underground, effectively ending their battle.

Most recently, Shikamaru has been put in charge of decoding Jiraiya's message on Pa's (one of the sage frogs) back. During Pain's attack on Konoha, Shikamaru has been seen with a broken leg and thus, incapacitated until the end of the conflict.

[character abilities]: From Narutopedia:

Intelligence// "Shikamaru is a very skilled ninja whose most noticeable trait is his IQ of over 200. Even back in his days as a Genin, he was easily seen as one of the more perceptive characters in the series. That's also how he became a Chuunin before anyone else in his class. Asuma noted that he is beyond genius and probably the smartest ninja of his generation. Although back in the academy his marks were "almost as bad as Naruto's" on account of him being too lazy to lift his pencil to take notes and dozing off during exams. ... Shikamaru also has a knack for being able to remember everything he witnesses in astonishing detail, which suggests that he has eidetic memory which enables him to better formulate plans and tactics.

It also seems that Shikamaru has grown smarter over the time-skip, now even being able to defeat a member of Akatsuki single-handedly, making him one of the few known to have done such a feat (alongside Sasuke and Naruto), as well as being able to analyze and discern the nature of their abilities after seeing it been performed only once using only the purest of logic. It might be noted that in each of his previous battles, Shikamaru makes use of strategy and planning instead of outright battle tactics. Asuma has stated Shikamaru can think ten moves ahead and consider 200 possible moves in a second, but his real talent is always being able to choose the correct one. This enables him to defeat many ninja who, according to him, "cannot use their head.""

In addition to this, I also assume that Shikamaru is very resourceful with his surroundings, his inventory, as well as his opponent's flaws—both in terms of ability and personality. In the past, I have played him as a very perceptive character who pays close attention to his opponent's (as well as his peers') personality, making him a very attentive to detail type of person. He's very good at putting two-and-two together, though he won't say most of his deductions aloud because that'd be drawing too much attention to himself.

Combat Skill// "During the timeskip, Shikamaru has also developed in fighting skill, became visibly stronger than he was in Part I, as seen when he was able to launch a surprise attack on Hidan which almost slashed the immortal's neck halfway through. In the anime, Shikamaru also displayed the capacity to use summoning scrolls in conjunction with his shadow-based techniques; such as summoning an instant pool of water to counter Kakuzu's lightning attacks.

It can also be said that Shikamaru is very skillful at dodging attacks, as seen in his unfinished but nevertheless "won" battle against Temari. This is most prominently seen in the first part of Naruto when he evades all three of Tayuya's Doki Demons, and later in Shippūden when he evades the Akatsuki members Kakuzu and Hidan. Shikamaru and Kakashi evade Kakuzu's fire mask attack unharmed while his partners, Ino and Choji, barely tumble out of the way.

He also pulls a lightning quick slight of hand on Hidan. Hidan thinks he has cut Shikamaru with his pike, but in reality Shikamaru has dodged the attack and placed Kakuzu's blood on the pike in one quick motion. This leads to Kakuzu losing one of his hearts when Hidan performs his ritual."

[series]: Doubt (Rabbit Doubt)
[character]: Hazama Rei
[character history / background]:

Rei lived life as a child star hypnotist. For her show she was called Saimin Shoujo (Girl Hypnotist) and for awhile was very popular. It was going good for her and her family until rumors began to spread that she was not all that she coughed up to be, that she used foolish men on her show, and that all in all, was a fake. Soon after this stories spread her friends and classmates at school shunned her, the media tore her apart, and all fell down hill quickly. Her parents tried their best to protect her from all of this, but even that failed.

One day her parents decided that they were going to take her someplace special. As they were driving they told her that they loved her very much and then steered off into a pole and rolled into a ditch. They died, but Rei survived.

After this she vowed to exact her revenge by hypnotizing those who mocked her through the television, to those who lost a loved one.

With this she became the Wolf in the game of Rabbit Doubt.

During a get-together of friends who all played in the cell phone game of Rabbit Doubt, Rei appeared in a wheelchair. While talking to one of the people in the group, Yuu, she revealed to him that she was the Saimin Shoujo. She went on to tell him her story, with the addendum that in attempt to kill herself by stopping in front a moving truck she lost the ability to move her legs.

Of course, he believed her. They all did.

To quote Wikipedia from here on:

The players are rabbits in a colony; one of these players is randomly chosen to act as a wolf infiltrating the group. Each round, the rabbits guess which is the wolf as the rabbits are eaten one-by-one until none are left.

Four players of the "Rabbit Doubt" game Yu Aikawa, Eiji Hoshi, Haruka Akechi, Rei Hazama and a non player Mitsuki Hoyama meet to relax together. During the day, the group is rendered unconscious. They awaken in an abandoned psychiatric hospital to meet Hajime Komaba, a player who did not appear at the meeting and find Rei crucified. The group finds Rei's cell phone and realizes they are playing a real-life game of "Rabbit Doubt". To survive, the wolf, the liar, must die.

Using bar codes found imprinted on their bodies, the groups tries to find an exit and Rei's killer. However, their chances are limited as the bar codes will only open one door. In addition, Yu is secretly the only one without a bar code. The group accuses one another of being the wolf. Mitsuki is suspected because her photo appears in a list of "Rabbit Doubt" players when her being there was "unlucky". Because of this and because he lied, Yu is also suspected. After Eiji is hanged, the group suspects Haruka. When Yu finds Haruka's head in a mask, he believes Hajime is the wolf. When looking for Hajime, Yu finds that Mitsuki has also been hanged. Yu and Hajime accuse one another of being the wolf. Hajime realizes the wolf's true identity and is stabbed by the wolf soon after. When Yu unmasks the wolf, he finds it is Mitsuki.

Mitsuki explains she wants to punish all liars to achieve her comatose father's revenge. She did not want to kill Yu after his first lie. However, he lied again and must be killed with Hajime. Mitsuki has already killed the others for their lies. When Mitsuki leaves, Hajime tells Yu the truth about himself and hands him a scalpel as a weapon.

Mitsuki returns to find Yu and Hajime have escaped. Yu attacks her from behind. Mitsuki reminds him that he told Mitsuki that he had no time to talk, but was seen with a girl named Kei afterward. Mitsuki later killed Kei. Yu tells Mitsuki that he and Kei were buying her a gift. Mitsuki believes he is still lying and tries to kill him. She falls onto the scalpel, cutting her neck. Yu tries to take Mitsuki to a hospital, but her bar code does not open the exit. Rei enters the room and reveals she is also a wolf. Rei is looking for revenge and manipulated Mitsuki through hypnosis. After the media called her a liar, she was severely harassed and her parents committed suicide. She then sent a hypnotic message through her show to those who have lost a loved one. Those hypnotized assisted her in previous games. Due to the love Mitsuki has for Yu, Rei's hypnosis is sometimes overpowered, causing Rei to not give Yu a bar code like the others in the hopes of ostracizing him from the rest of the group. Rei releases the surviving players and calls the police to the psychiatric hospital, so that they find them.

Yu, a comatose Mitsuki, and Hajime are in a hospital. The police decide that the death of Mitsuki's father pushed Mitsuki over the edge, causing her to commit the murders. No evidence of Rei's involvement is found. Hajime returns to the psychiatric hospital. Yu receives a call from Rei, who tells him a member of the forensics team is hypnotized, covering all the evidence of Rei's involvement in the murders. Yu warns Hajime too late and Hajime is attacked. Rei then tricks Yu into saying a phrase in conjunction with a cellphone ringing causes Mitsuki to go into her hypnotic state. Rei says goodbye to Yu as Mitsuki approaches him with a knife.

[character abilities]:

Beyond her hypnosis, Rei is a normal human being who also happens to be a sociopath. She manipulates others through her hypnosis with certain sounds and catch phrases, turning them into Wolves - murdering humans beyond their own control. Although, not even Rei’s hypnosis is perfect and can be overpowered by strong emotions.

[character personality]:

Rei is an extremely sweet girl, despite her timid tendencies. She is polite, kind, and overall just a little sweetheart. She tries to avoid crowds as much as possible and tries her best to get along with everyone and almost never raises her voice. She is easily likable because of all of these wonderful traits.

Of course, one would never expect her to be a cruel sociopath who uses people’s despair and negative emotions to fuel her own desire to enact revenge and to continue her game of Rabbit Doubt.

Because of her innocent appearance no one would ever think of her to be that type of person, but in truth this is the perfect disguise to get just what she wants. She’ll lie through her teeth until the very end. Once someone is no longer useless to her she won’t hesitate in casting them out and finding a new Wolf to use to get what she wants.

Her goal? To make sure no one is ever happy again. Her revenge entails for everyone to feel the same exact suffering her dear parents felt. Rei is incredibly intelligent and can easily adapt to swift changes in her plans if, for one reason or another, the ‘rabbits’ evade her Wolf. In the end, everyone will die.

[series]: Violinist of Hameln.
[character]: Flute, and/or Newly Appointed Queen Flute of Sforzando. Whatever works.
[character history / background]: Can be found here.
[character abilities]:
Flute doesn't have many purely physical strengths (other than the whole "POW KICK-TO-THE-FACE-HAMEL" thing); she can pack a decent punch or kick but unless she's under the spell of the Marionette, her abilitites lie in her magic. She has both a holy soul and holy blood, which is supposed to be delicious or something to demons that can sense that sort of thing. She inherited her Deus Ex Machina powers from the rest of her family, and so she has incredible magic, and can defeat almost anyone-- though like I said before I'll tone them down here. She is the only person who has enough willpower over Hamel to calm him down when he's having a Demon moment, and she also has her Holy Maiden healing powers... however, they have one flaw: whenever she uses them, it takes away some of her own life in return.

[character personality]:
Flute is probably one of the sweetest girls out there. Much like her older brother, Lute, she is optimistic, cheerful and very daydreamy. However, she did not grow up as a princess (after Lute's first "death" she was sent by her mother to the town of Staccato, so she could grow up safely), and because of this she doesn't have much of the royal ettiquette; keeping herself composed, learning diplomacy, etc. Despite this, she always treats others with high regard and is gentle with them... unless they're a jerk. That's an entirely different story.

Flute is usually smiling. She puts a great amount of effort into keeping her friends motivated and happy, even if it exhausts her. When upset she tries her best not to let it show, for the sake of others. Flute puts it upon herself to try and keep a confident face when confonted with difficulties, however she also tends to be rather sensitive. Flute has HORRENDOUS luck, and is constantly getting into awful situations and accidents. Often, she will feel the need to flip out, scream, bawl, blush like crazy or even swear when embarassed or humiliated. She does seem to come off as kind of weird at first, but after getting to know her it is easy to see that she has a truly pure personality. She is very forgiving and understanding, and will never turn a blind eye to someone who needs her help. She has a godly amount of patience and sympathy, and will always be there for someone that needs a shoulder to cry on. Flute has the same maternal streak as Queen Horn, and is usually seen as the glue holding her friends together; like the mother figure. Similar to both Queen Horn and Lute, she loves children, and treats them with a great amount of care, regardless of her own young age. As a whole, she is generally well-liked by others.

Again, like the rest of her family, Flute has the tendency to be very selfless. She hates standing by and doing nothing when someone is in danger, and if that's the case she'll do anything she can to try and help, even if in the end, she really won't be much use at all. Often times when she sees herself as useless in a situation it makes her incredibly upset. Flute is used to understanding others, and when someone or a situation is seen as an enigma to her she has a lot of trouble trying to compose herself. When under a lot of stress she always tries to hide it, but sometimes it's too much for her and she will break down. When she gets to that state it's very hard to pull her out of it; usually she needs a damn good shaking by someone. Sometimes Flute can manage it herself, with the help of her hopeful and optimistic demeanor, but even then it's frequently for the sake of others. Really, to be honest, the whole friking family is a bunch of martyrs.

Flute's pet peeve is jerks, to but it bluntly. She cannot STAND people who are selfish and rude. However, because of her empathy she can tell when a jerk has some good in them and will at least try and give them a chance. For Hamel's sake, she does manage to see past the fact that he's a total asshole and ends up falling in love with him. This doesn't mean that she's always lovey-dovey with him though-- whenever he or another bastard steps out of line they're bound to earn a good scolding from the girl. Or a smack upside the head with her Cross of Divine Retribution, whichever works the best.

What is this? This-- this isn't the palace. How did I get here? A... carousel? Hamel, this better not be your idea of a joke! Of course, you would find this funny, wouldn't you? This is not the time, okay? And I still haven't forgiven you for the bird thing, by the way, and you're going to have to apologize to Clari when we get home.

...But if it isn't Hamel, then I've never seen this place before. I wonder... maybe I should look around. Then I might be able to get some answers, at least...

[third person / log sample]:
[OKAY LET'S TRY THIS ONE MORE TIME D:]

Okay, so maybe she was starting to get a little worried.

The carousel didn't help, alright? It seemed kind of bizarre, really, to have something like that just sitting in the middle of a city. And that incessant ticking was incredibly eerie, even Flute had to admit-- especially the fact that it seemed to be coming from inside her own head. It was actually beginning to feel like a countdown to her, which was most definitely a bad sign. Because that didn't entirely make sense, did it? And nether did the equally unnerving quality of the carousel. It was only a carousel, for goodness sake, hardly the most dangerous thing in the world. And what on earth would the ticking be counting down to? It wasn't as if her brain would just fly everywhere because of this, that was ludicrous. And why... why was she even thinking about this.

ELIZABETH BENNET | pride and prejudice [2/8]
[info]spazzed
2009-06-02 04:36 pm UTC (link)
[character history / background]:
Lizzy is not a bit better than the others; and I am sure she is not half so handsome as Jane, nor half so good-humoured as Lydia. But you are always giving her preference. ❞

Pride to her father’s academia and burden to her mother’s futile attempts to marry her off, Elizabeth (fondly referred to as Lizzy) was born the second child of the hoard that was the Bennet family. They produced five daughters and no sons, which, during the backdrop of eighteenth century England, was very troublesome indeed. At the time, a woman’s only hope of living out a secure and comfortable life was to marry well – and in the case of the five sisters, they would need to marry very well indeed. From the first interaction we see of the family, it is obvious who has paired off with whom.

Jane and Lizzy are the oldest in age and by far the closest sisters, as they often speak fondly of one another and spend a great deal of time reflecting on the day’s events late into that night. The two youngest of the sisters, Kitty and Lydia, have also been made a pair of the wild sort; strutting about into town for a new hat or a gawk at the local officers. Last but not least, Mary is in want to travel behind the rest with her books and surly nature, prone to staying indoors or practicing the piano than indulging in the games of her younger or elder sisters. Despite their varying disagreements however, it is clear that they have all grown up quite closely to one another and are, unlikely as it is for the society of the time, a loving family. Normal? Hardly.

The catalyst to the plot is introduced in the form of Mr. Charles Bingley; a man of high society and five thousand a year an entourage of wealthy companions whose purchase of Netherfield spreads throughout town like wildfire. Any eligible girl in the vicinity would do well to meet with him before the week was out, and you can bet Mrs. Bennet set her sights on auctioning off her daughters as soon as was humanly possible. It turned out that Mr. Bingley was actually an agreeable man when they made his acquaintance at the Meryton assembly, sooner setting his sights upon the well-mannered Jane before any other. Of course, as with all romantic novels, when Elizabeth met who would be her future husband, he gave a less than appealing first impression. Mr. Darcy was a friend and confidant of Mr. Bingley who had joined him that evening, although showed absolutely no signs of enjoying himself even if it was a party. When asked if he would like to dance with her, Elizabeth overhead him say "she is not handsome enough to tempt me" which, despite her dismissal of the comment to her friend Charlotte Lucas, infuriated her. How dare he act so rudely when she had done nothing to him?

Her (rumoured) illegitimate father funded her rather expensive education, in which she was taught to memorize entire plays by heart, as well as to be well versed in the arts of singing, dancing, acting, and musicianship (she plays the clavichord). She is very charismatic, skilled and educated in charming men. Reinette, though having no direct influence in political events, is still very politically minded, and said to have, despite her position as mistress of the king, advocated and supported various treaties and candidates. She is intuitive and passionate, as well as brave – even in the face of death at the hands of the clockwork men, with knives at her throat, she looks them in the eye and tells them that she does not fear them, for they are only the work of a childhood nightmare.

Addendum for Kuran Kaname
[info]firstvampire
2009-06-03 12:12 am UTC (link)
For this application here. I've also posted this already onto here, then I realized there was a new app thread.

Kaname got into Ichijo's car with a sigh. A Day Class student had been attacked in the Academy during his absence. Although he would not have wanted to harm him for giving in to his desires, he had no choice but to assure such attacks would never happen again.. Too much was at stake and the timing had to be right.

It's been 10 years since he started carrying out his plans to finally kill Rido. His own descendant, toying with him... He could not kill him as it was thanks to Rido that he was alive once more, but he knew Rido's very birth into his lineage was a mistake.

He looked by the window as the car proceeded to the party the Aidou Family had arranged. Yuuki's voice was still very clear in his head, despite having a polite conversation with Ichijo.

"I will not speak to you, Kaname-senpai, not unless you take back your words!"

It angered him to see Yuuki care so much about that... thing. A hunter who could not accept his fate, lost between hating vampire and denying his own vampire nature. Yet at the same time, Kaname knew such a friendship... such love was necessary for Yuuki's own safety. Kaname knew he was unable to protect the one thing he loved most against Rido. He blamed himself for Rido's very existence, so he will do anything... sacrifice anything, just to keep her safe.

"Soon..." he whispered to himself, "very soon. All things will come to pass."

Ichijo gave him a confused look, to which he simply shrugged off. Perhaps he too has gone mad... like the crazed pure blood who was destroyed by the Council of the Ancients as well as the Vampire Hunters Association. For how long has the system become so corrupted? For how long had they... had his children, been so wrongly hunted?

He could feel his anger rising, but told himself to be patient. He knew that he had to kill Shizuka in order to keep Zero in a tight leash. Shizuka, one of the few remaining pure bloods, who had turned Zero into a vampire as punishment for his parents killing her lover... was such a fate so different from his own? If Rido were to kill Yuuki... wouldn't he also lose whatever sanity he had left and go on a killing rampage as well?

At the very least, Shizuka could kill the people who murdered her lover. Kaname could not kill the very threat to Yuuki's life. Even though Zero's parents were not entirely at fault, he still felt a twinge of jealousy that she could avenge her lover...

As the car pulled to a stop, Kaname could hear Ichijo mumble something to the driver. Akatsuki and Hanabusa were already there, waiting for them to arrive. Kaname got out of the car deciding to paint a blank facade so as to avoid worrying the others as well as avoid their questions with what was troubling him.

It did not take long for that to change.

He heard Akatsuki say Yuuki's name. Upon glancing over to his direction, he saw Yuuki lying on the ground, near the run down building as to where the party was to be held. Why was she here? Does she even realize what a dangerous situation she was in just being here? Being human... in a place where vampires were set to meet...

"What a troublesome child..."

Nate Grey part 2
[info]b_radwick
2009-06-04 04:27 am UTC (link)
[character history / background]: Wiki.
[character abilities]: Some Wiki wiki.
[character personality]: Because Nate spent much of his life growing up in a large tube, he lacks the emotional maturity that might otherwise come with physically being 17 years old. He has all the anger and confusion that comes with a teenage body without any life experience to even begin to deal with the emotions.

Bred to be the ultimate weapon against Apocalypse, Nate struggled against doing what he felt was right, what everyone expected him to, and his “destiny”. Being so defiant, Nate was and is often prone to not doing what is asked/told of him just to be obstinate. Despite this resistance to fate, once he is pushed in a direction because of personal pain or tragedy, he is unrelenting in his goal, often ignoring any danger or harm to himself in pursuit of it.

Nate was raised in a post-Apocalyptic future where survival of the fittest was not just a way of life but encouraged. Kindness was not completely foreign to that world though and he did have a few close friends that were kind to him, especially Forge, the man he considers his father. Unfortunately, he was either betrayed by those he cared about or saw them killed before his eyes.

Because of the environment he grew up in, he often lashes out angrily and with very little provocation. Since Nate has been manipulated by others so often he tends to be highly suspicious of anyone who wants to help him, thinking they just want to use him, and reacts angrily and often violently to those types of situations.

Nate’s entire reality was destroyed with only a few survivors coming over to the 616 Marvel Universe. Without a home or a place Nate is left wandering a world that he doesn’t recognize, trying to find his place in it while knowing that he doesn’t truly belong. While he may be unsure of his place he does know that he won’t allow this unspoiled world to become like his home, even if he feels somewhat bitter towards its inhabitants, feeling they don’t fully appreciate what they have.

As a result of his upbringing, Nate is very protective of minorities or people who are being oppressed or attacked in some way. While a noble sentiment this often gets him in trouble, as sometimes the people he sees being attacked or caged are being so for a very good reason. He has a habit of rescuing people only to find out later that they are bad people and they usually end up hurting him, which only feeds his sense of paranoia that everyone is out to get him.

Nate is capable of making friends though, being attracted to the disenfranchised or downtrodden, people who are able to empathize with is plight on some level. When he does make friends or finds people in need, Nate will stop at nothing to protect them and help them.

Stubborn beyond measure, Nate’s first instinct is to power his way through a situation. While he is a capable fighter and strategist using massive amounts of raw power is so easy for him it is usually the first way he tries to solve a problem.

2009-06-04 06:24 am UTC (link)
[character personality]:
“dig a bit in the history of this place and you'll find a-a-a steady stream of fairly odd occurrences. i believe this whole area is the center of mystical energy, that things gravitate towards it that-that you might not find elsewhere.”

The two things most notable about Giles' personality are his attention to detail and the level of responsibility that he carries on his shoulders. He is a Watcher, after all, meaning that it is his duty to watch over and train Slayers, women who are destined to protect the Earth against vampires. Since it's a high-risk job, one which not only puts the Slayer at risk but also any civilians in the vicinity, decades of experience have wound up honing Giles' powers of deduction and his patience for trodding through shelves upon shelves of books. Of course, there are others who aid Giles in his neverending task--certain teenagers and faculty who go to Sunnydale High come to mind--but Giles, more than most, realizes that this is a duty which he is chained to, which he will do anything in his power to uphold. Being a Watcher is not only a job, but instead a way of life, and so by default, these are the ways that he approaches most things in life. With caution and discretion.

“oh, right. this is me having fun. watching clown hair prance about is hardly my idea of a party. i'd much rather be home with a cup bovril and a good book.”

There are other ways in which Giles fits this stereotype as well. Almost always dressed in tweed--it's loads better than Kevlar, by the way--Giles not only acts but appears to be every bit the librarian he is. Everything from his sweater vests to the accent which had so many fans at the time swooning screams intellectual, but manages to make it cool as well with a sharp wit--only dulled down, of course, by attractive, intelligent women, around whom Giles ends up babbing and tripping over his words. (More than usual, anyway.)

“buffy, when i said you could slay vampires and have a social life, i didn't mean at the same time.”

But while wisdom is a very good thing to have in a Watcher, as it is often accompanied by age, there are some occasionally significant setbacks which get in the way. One of these is, undoubtedly, the generation gap. For despite spending most of his time around a group of adolescents, or at least Slayers a generation down from his own, Giles is more or less incapable of even reaching through that generation gap which separates him from most of his acquaintances. At many times, this leads to conflict, particularly between him and his Slayers (see Buffy in particular), as it's hard for him to quite understand some of the activities that the kids insist on engaging in. If things get to a head, Giles can be every bit as stubborn as a teenager, although more often than not, more soft-spoken in general. Where Buffy and the others seek an escape, Giles is the person who pulls them back to reality, and this sort of system ends up leading to him displaying paternal attitudes towards most people. A desire to protect them and shield them from things that life shouldn't be putting on them--even if sometimes, Buffy being destined to be what she is, he also ends up expecting too much of certain people as well.

[Court Records: Profile]
[Court Records: "Turnabout Sisters"]
[Court Records: "Turnabout Samurai"]
[Court Records: "Turnabout Goodbyes"]
[Court Records: “Reunion, and Turnabout”]

Born in the rural, mountainous village of Kurain, Maya’s life growing up was simple, but hardly normal While other kids her age played video games, Maya trained to become a spirit medium. She spent long periods of time meditating, standing underneath frozen waterfalls to strengthen her concentration, and performed a variety of other tasks meant to cultivate her spiritual awareness. Born into the famous "Fey" family, Maya comes from a long line of women whose profession is making contact with the dead. Her secluded upbringing didn't exempt her from personal tragedy: When Maya was only two, her mother and the head of the clan, Misty Fey, disappeared and was never heard from again. This incident followed her mother's involvement in the investigation of Gregory Edgeworth's murder (otherwise known as the DL-6 Incident). When her readings did not match the verdict, her reputation was ruined and public outcry drove her into hiding.

Despite all of this, Maya's childhood was probably a fairly happy one, if only due to her naturally cheerful disposition. She still had a loving older sister, Mia Fey, who looked after her and was something of a role model for her. Even though Mia was ten years her elder, the two were fairly close. They remained close even into Maya's teenage years after Mia moved away to the city. Because of her mother's disappearance and her sister's choice to abscond her duties in favor of becoming an attorney, Maya became the family heir to the Fey lineage. Maya occasionally went to go see her sister, though more often than not it was Mia who would visit Kurain. Tragedy struck the Fey family again, though, when on a visit to see her older sister, Maya discovered her sister's dead body in her office.

Luck was not on her side--Maya was blamed for murdering her sister, not only because she was found on the scene with the body, but also because her sister had apparently written out Maya's name in her own blood. It seemed to the detectives working the scene that the victim had named her killer. If not for Phoenix Wright's determination in solving the mystery behind his partner and mentor's murder, Maya would surely have been wrongly convicted. Wright discovered that Redd White, the man who leaked Misty Fey's name to the press following the DL-6 Incident, was responsible. Redd White murdered Mia in order to prevent her from prosecuting him for blackmail. Redd went to jail, and Maya was cleared of all charges.

Instead of returning home, Maya stayed on to help the new Wright & Co. Law Offices. Her sister’s spirit, summoned at a crucial moment during the court proceedings, instructed Maya to assist Nick in his work. And, somewhat against his will, Maya took the job on with gusto, assisting him in two more cases. Although Maya's ability to really "assist" could be considered questionable (does asking to be fed really count?) she put her best foot forward to help her sister's friend.

Maya became incredibly involved with the case involving Will Powers, the actor who played her personal hero and the star of the children's show The Steel Samurai. In fact, although Will Powers called the office himself to request Phoenix's services, it was Maya who insisted they take the case. Although somewhat pesky and altogether bossy, Maya’s usefulness finally shines through when her spiritual capabilities--mediating with her sister's spirit--allows them to win over a witness who previously refused to talk. However, Maya's powers are still too weak for Mia to stay for very long, and she can only be so helpful to Phoenix. Thanks to their hard work, Phoenix was able to prove that it was not Will Powers but Dee Vasquez who murdered Jack Hammer.

In their next case, the accused was none other than their fellow attorney and rival, Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth. During their investigation of the murder of Robert Hammond, Maya and Phoenix got into considerable trouble for being nuisances. During the difficult trial, Maya found she was completely unable to summon Mia's spirit and nearly left due to feelings of self-doubt and uselessness. Phoenix's talents and determination kept them just above water, though, and their investigation led them to believe that although Yanni Yogi was responsible for Hammond's death and framing Edgeworth, it was Prosecutor Manfred von Karma himself who pulled the strings. Just when they'd found real, damning evidence of von Karma’s crimes, Phoenix confronted von Karma in the police station's evidence room. Unfortunately, von Karma had the upper hand and tazered them both—Maya for trying to protect Phoenix, and Phoenix in order to steal with evidence. When they woke up, all that remained was a single bullet Maya stole to link von Karma to the murder of Edgeworth’s father’s death.

Although they did succeed in proving Edgeworth's innocence, Maya decided to leave Wright & Co. Law Offices in order to continue her training as a spirit-medium. Her feelings of uselessness for not being able to call on her sister persisted, but Phoenix did succeed in conveying to her that without her help--stealing the bullet from von Karma--he would have lost the case. She promised Phoenix that she would return after having honed her skills before boarding the train that took her back to Kurain Village. A little less than six months later, Maya and Phoenix were reunited, but it was no time for celebrating meeting old friends. Maya stood accused of murder again.

[character history / background]:
(Largely gleaned from Wikipedia together with personal input and fan-sites. The expansive Wikipedia page is good stuff.)

The greatest and most famous detective who (n)ever lived. His name and appearance are iconic.

An estimate of Holmes's age in the short story "His Last Bow" places his year of birth around 1854, although there is no authoritative biography. Not much is said of Holmes' parents, yet he has an older brother, Mycroft Holmes, a government official, who appears in three stories: "The Greek Interpreter," "The Final Problem," and "The Bruce-Partington Plans." Mycroft is also mentioned in a number of other stories, including "The Empty House." Mycroft had a unique civil service position as a kind of memory-man for all aspects of government policy--a kind of walking database. Mycroft was even more gifted than Sherlock in matters of observation and deduction but he was not a man of action, preferring to spend his time at the Diogenes Club, described as a club for the most un-clubbable men in London. In "The Greek Interpreter," Holmes also claims that his grandmother was the sister of Vernet, the French artist.

Cases such as "The Adventure of the Gloria Scott" and "The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual" offer a glimpse into Holmes' early years. Holmes first began developing his methods of deduction as a university student, before being inspired by an encounter with the father of one of his classmates to take them up as a profession. According to Holmes, his first cases came from fellow university students, such as Reginald Musgrave, before he gained a professional reputation. He would spend the next six years working as a consulting detective, before financial difficulties led him to take Watson as a roommate to help with the rent. He is described in the Hound of the Baskervilles as working at a "chemical laboratory" at a hospital and says that being a private "consulting detective" was only a part-time occupation. In later stories Holmes does his chemical experiments at 221 B Baker Street, including basic forensics work.

In the very first story, "A Study in Scarlet", something of Holmes's background is given. In early 1881, he is presented as an independent student of chemistry with a variety of very curious side interests, almost all of which turn out to be single-mindedly bent towards making him superior at solving crimes. An early story, "The Adventure of the Gloria Scott", presents more background on what caused Holmes to become a detective: a college friend's father complimented him very highly on his deductive skills. Holmes always uses scientific (or supposedly scientific) methods and focuses on logic and the powers of observation and deduction.

At the beginning of "The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger," Watson states that Holmes "was in active practice for twenty-three years"; during seventeen of these years, Watson "was allowed to cooperate with him and to keep notes of his doings." Historically, Holmes lived from the year 1881 at 221B Baker Street, London (in early notes it was described as being situated at Upper Baker Street), a flat up seventeen steps, where he shared many of his professional years with his good friend Dr. Watson for some time before Watson's marriage in 1887 and again after Mrs. Watson's death. The residence was maintained by his landlady, Mrs. Hudson. In almost all of the stories, Holmes is assisted by the practical Watson, who is not only a friend but also his chronicler (his "Boswell"). Most of Holmes's stories are told as narratives, by Watson, of the detective's solutions to crimes brought to his attention by clients. Holmes sometimes criticizes Watson for his writings, usually because he relates them as exciting stories rather than as objective and detailed reports focusing on what Holmes regards as the pure "science" of his craft. In three stories ("The Sign of the Four", "A Study in Scarlet", and "The Adventure of the Crooked Man"), Holmes is assisted by a group of street children he calls the Baker Street Irregulars.

[character]: Tia Harribel
[character history / background]: Here, but if you need more let me know~
[character abilities]: This describes it better than I could ever hope to, but I shall attempt to summarize. As the fourth-strongest Espada, she has levels of speed, strength, endurance etc. that are uncommonly high for a spiritual being, be it hollow or shinigami. We have seen her exhibit powers common to her race, such as cero, as well as more unique attacks befitting an arrancar of her stature, like the energy fired from her hollow zanpakuto, Tiburon. Harribel is the shark empress, and as the title implies, after resurreccion her specialized abilities revolve around water. By manipulating surrounding moisture she can stop it in its tracks ("Hirviendo"), or launch a variety of attacks which range from a missile of water ("La Gota") to a veritable tsunami ("Cascada"). However, all of Harribel's abilities aren't rooted in reiryoku. She has a sharp mind for tactics including the "art" of war (as seen in her lecture to Toshiro Hitsugaya concerning "rules of battle"), is practiced in combat, and exhibits excellent swordsmanship.

Tia Harribel: Part 2
[info]abaddonnox
2009-06-06 03:38 am UTC (link)
[character personality]: Taciturn and sedate, Harribel possesses a reserved/distant air, but is also calmly attentive/mindful. She's confident in herself and her abilities/skills, but sees no reason to demonstrate them needlessly, or defend them loudly. When Harribel does speak the tone is serious, but generally has a respectful air. However, she never hesitates to reprimand/correct/question others, even Espada who outrank her (such as Barragan Luisenbarn). Harribel is very loyal to Aizen, most likely due to his obvious strength/abilities, as well as what she has gained via him. In contrast to most of her comrades, Harribel is compassionate towards her fraccion (such as telling them to not concern themselves about being frightened while observing Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez's fight with Ichigo Kurosaki), doesn't abuse or treat them condescendingly, and even expresses genuine attachment (evidenced by her declaration to Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryusai that he will pay for taking their lives). She appears capable of empathy, but this generally manifests itself as her not looking down on others for their failings, rather than overt care. It's likely no coincidence that Harribel holds the third seat Neliel Tu Oderschvank once did. She probably holds similar ideals (that Espada should remember where they come from, not exercise/inflict their powers/strengths needlessly, not abuse or look down on those weaker than themselves, etc.), but internalizes them more.

[series]: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
[character]: Jenny Calendar // Janna of the Kalderash clan
[character history / background]: Wiki knows all

[character abilities]: Jenny has crazy computer skills...well, for the 90's. Perhaps less dated is her knowledge of magic. She identifies as a techno-pagan -- she doesn't have the magical strength to qualify as a witch, but she can cast bones, read portents, and cast certain spells with the help of others.

[character personality]:

I know our ways are strange to you, but soon you will join us in the twentieth century, with three whole years to spare.

Jenny is your typical Whedon woman: strong, intelligent, and more than a little bit sassy. She has a bold, brassy attitude and doesn't hesitate to speak her mind, frequently lecturing Giles on his technophobia and outright calling him a "snob" for disdaining computers. She comes on a little strong sometimes, especially with the Watcher. Snark is how she flirts. While Giles is flustered by their heated debates in "I Robot, You Jane," Jenny thrives on them. (In typical Giles manner, he doesn't even realize she's flirting until the very end where she finally makes a blatantly sexual comment. "Well, you really are an old-fashioned boy, aren't you?" "Well, I-I don't dangle a corkscrew from my ear." "That's not where I dangle it.") Even when they start going out, she masks her interest in snarky comments. ("Is this a normal strategy for a first date? Dissing my country's national pastime?" "...did you just say...date?" "You noticed that, huh?") She's outgoing and a little bit wild; she spent the summer between season 1 and season 2 at the Burning Man and Black Rock festival, with "drum rituals, mobile sculptures, raves, naked dances," and she is absolutely crazy about sports. She is kind and caring, looking out for Buffy and nurturing Willow, but she is not gentle and sweet. And if you give her attitude, she will give it back tenfold.

Wrong and wrong, snobby. You think the realm of the mystical is limited to ancient texts and relics? That bad old science made the magic go away? The divine exists in cyberspace same as out here.

Jenny is as passionate about technology as Giles is about books. But she is also well-versed in magic and magical lore, and she does not see magic and technology as mutually exclusive. In fact, as a techno-pagan, she sees computers and other forms of modern technology as part of the advancement of magic. She is a member of a cyber-coven, which helps her banish the demon Maloch from the internet, and after Angel loses his soul, she designs a program to translate the book that holds the spell to get it back.

[character history / background]:
Amongst the Twelve Related Worlds, there is one, the Tenth, where a goddess called Asheth is worshipped. She is not a very nice goddess. While she's not entirely cruel, Asheth is vengeful and proud; she does not share power, and her military arm has been known to pursue offenders across whole worlds to exact vengeance.

In one of the worlds of Ten, a hot, desert-bound place, a grand Temple of Asheth stands in the center of a city. This Temple houses Astheth's Divine aspect, a gold-faced wood statue, and her Living aspect, a young girl. The Living Asheth is chosen amongst a number of applicants and always has a cat-shaped birthmark on the sole of her left foot. She is raised in the Temple's innermost cloisters by priestesses, cared for and educated by them. She only leaves the Temple one day a year for the Festival of Asheth, where she is carried around the city on a cart and all the people leap out to touch her for luck.

When this Living Asheth was young, a boy walked through a wall and into her bedroom. He was from another world, and he was chasing one of her cats. Cats are sacred to Asheth, and Asheth Temple cats are coveted for their valuable magical properties; they're expensive black market material, although neither the boy nor the Goddess knew this. The Goddess agreed to give him a cat so long as he promised to bring her books from her world in exchange. The Living Asheth isn't allowed to touch anything in the world outside of the Temple, but the books the boy would bring her wouldn't be from Asheth's world. The boy agreed to a swap, and the Goddess helped him catch a particularly vile cat named Throgmorten. As the boy escaped, he was chased by the Arm of Asheth and impaled on a spear, but as no body was ever found, the Goddess didn't know what might have happened to her new friend.

Months passed before the boy, Christopher, returned, bringing with him five books from a series known simply as the Millie books, and he brought the next five a few months after that. These books left so great an impact on the Goddess that she eventually adopted its titular lead's name as her own. The Millie books tell the story of a girl named Millie and her rollicking adventures at Lowood House Boarding School. The Goddess didn't merely devour them--she practically absorbed them through osmosis. They consumed her thoughts; everything was when Millie did this and Oh, to go to school like Millie! Going to school soon became the Goddess's dearest dream, and she wanted everything that went with it: dorms, midnight feasts, prefects, demerits, writing lines--all of it.

The Goddess continued to receive visits from Christopher and came to like him a great deal. She was the only one in whom he could confide his frustrations about the path his life had taken, and he was the only one in whom she could confide her growing restlessness. The older the Goddess grew, the more her role bothered her. Besides Christopher, she had no friends; she could leave the Temple; she didn't even have a name--she was just "the Goddess" and "the Living Asheth". She remembered something Christopher had said when they first met: "Do you stop being Asheth when you grow up?" And she didn't know. None of the priestesses talked about the previous Asheths, and when the Goddess asked her chief caretaker, Mother Proudfoot, the woman just told her not to worry and that it was taken care of.

[series]: Fruits Basket
[character]: Shigure Sohma

[character history / background]:
Shigure is the dog of the cursed Chinese zodiac members, or Jyuunishi, born into the rich Sohma family.

Not much is shown of his early childhood except that he was very perceptive and cool-headed, even back then. He didn’t particularly want his parents love and has a somewhat cold relationship with them.

At one point in his childhood, the god of the zodiac, Akito, was conceived. Shigure awoke crying from a passionate, bittersweet dream where Akito came to him and said that they will meet soon. He found Hatori, Ayame and Kureno who all had the same dream and went to Ren, Akito’s mother, to tell her the news. Afterwards, he vowed that would somehow hold the dream in his hands and make it last forever. He still remembers this vow and remains very important to him.

One day, Akito asked if Shigure loved her. Shigure responded by giving her a Japanese camelia and saying that it was an ‘unshakeable truth’ that he loved and cared for her.

Shigure went to the same middle school and high school as his cousins Hatori and Ayame, making them close friends. The called themselves the ‘Mabudachi trio’ and were inseparable. Once Shigure reached adulthood, he lived at the main Sohma estate until an incident occurred and Akito slept with Kureno. Shigure was furious at this and blinded by jealously, he proceeded to sleep with Ren, Akito’s mother and person she hates the most. Once Akito found out she kicked Shigure out of the house in anger.

Shigure now lives in his own house outside of the Sohma estate, and by the prodding of Hatsuharu, he has taken Yuki in. It is speculated that around this time he became a novelist. With careful manipulation of Akito, Yuki and Kyou, Tohru and Kyou now live in the house too. It appears his motivation for doing so is to provoke changes and cause the Sohma curse to break.

[character abilities]:
Possessed by the dog of the Chinese zodiac, Shigure turns into a dog when hugged by someone of the opposite sex. He can also communicate with dogs in either human or animal form.

Shigure Sohma [part 2]
[info]emixpearl
2009-06-07 11:57 pm UTC (link)
[character personality]:
Shigure is complex and enigmatic character. Many characters have stated that they cannot tell what he’s thinking, comparing him to a ripple or jellyfish - a man that cannot be caught.

To most he is a joking observer, harmlessly teasing people with a calm, care-free approach to life. His laid-back attitude makes him easy to approach and his sense of humour makes him a fun person to be around. He can lighten any mood instantly. He is known for playing on his immaturity and perverseness for amusement’s sake, but is also known for his urge to crack a joke at very inappropriate moments. Sometimes it is hard to tell whether he is serious or not, and because he makes such flippant comments, it’s hard to tell what he is really thinking.

But there is also a mature side to him that shines through when people are in need. He is a very good advice giver, and being a novelist, he usually weaves this in inspiring metaphors. He is quite perceptive of people and can read them and their feelings easily. He is also shown to be caring and gentle, especially towards Tohru and Kisa at the beginning at the series. Although he can be a bit blunt when it comes down to expressing his opinion.

Shigure’s ‘true nature’, however, is quite different. At numerous points in the series he is shown to be cold, hypocritical, manipulative and cruel. He mocks people with a air of indifference and says things that deliberately pushes them to their limit. Sometimes he can’t help putting oil on the fire. As he is very perceptive of people, he can manipulate them at ease. He is selfish and stubborn, childishly so, and has even said that he only looks out for himself. Once he is determined to possess something he becomes obsessed with it and will do anything to reach that aim, even if it meant hurting people. Those who are aware of this side to him remark that he treats people like objects, not even treating those he likes as human beings. This definitely shows through with his dysfunctional relationship with Akito. He claims to love her but treats her with extreme indifference and cruelty, wanting to spoil her but stamp her underfoot at the same time.

He is fully aware of this twisted nature of his and remarks on it at several occasions, calling himself ‘the worst of them all’. Sometimes it appears that he talks about himself harshly and exaggerates how amoral he is. He seems content with his nature however, and does not seem to want to change it in the slightest. He doesn’t view it as something ‘bad’.

Despite this side to him, he has good intentions. But being a firm believer in ‘the ends justify the means’ he will do anything to reach that end.

[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: After chapter 111.

But if you must continue with your sordid little love affairs, I hope you are using adequate protection.

Now. Seeing as you no longer hold any interest in Tohru-kun, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind if she and I were to go on a little date, hm?

[character]: Arthur Justice (A. J.) Raffles
A. [character history/background]:
Much of Raffles' family history is unknown as he tends to keep it to himself. He must have been born to well-to-do parents in order to have been able to go to public school and Cambridge as well as have a sister married to a country vicar. He may have other siblings, but they do not factor into his life in London and he is not so upper class as to be admitted into society on his name alone. The name of his public school is never revealed, but it would be fair to assume it was modelled on the author's stay at Uppingham College.

A short summary of what is known (and not known) can be found here and a longer one here.
B. [character abilities]: Human as human can be. Can imitate numerous British accents and a passable American and Scottish, but at this point doesn't know any other languages other than some school Latin and French. An exceptional athlete, the best all-around cricketer of his decade, and extremely clever. Skilled at lockpicking, thievery, disguises, and lying. He is also decent with horses and a passable shot.

Raffles :: Part 2

C. [character personality]:
When analysing the character of Mr Raffles one must take into account the inherent bias of his chronicler, Bunny, who hero-worships the older man. This may result in him appearing as a bit of a Stu character, but it's canon.

As a handsome, clever, and athletic boy Raffles made it easily through school to read at Cambridge and ends up playing cricket for the Gentlemen out of Middlesex as well as being called up to a handful of Test matches to play for his country. While at school he sneaked out nights to wander the town dressed in a beard, and what he did with that time is unknown but it is likely he did it simply for the excitement of breaking the rules or to meet up with women. Despite, or perhaps because, of his adult lifestyle he has a stronger taste for the finer things in life than he can reasonably afford as well as a constant craving for the exciting and dramatic.

He explains it as, "Why should I work when I could steal? Why settle down to a humdrum uncongenial billet, when excitement, romance, danger, and decent living were all going begging together? Of course it's very wrong, but we can't all be moralists, and the distribution of wealth is very wrong to begin with". This single quotation is very telling. The moment when he realizes the value of thievery to maintaining his lifestyle is during a serendipitous adventure in the Australian outback, after which he realizes cricket is not nearly so exciting and, since he is an amateur cricketer, not nearly so profitable. Despite the setting being the tight-laced Victorian era, Raffles' morals are not strong enough for him to give up his apartment in the Albany and his high-society lifestyle. In this, as in many things, he is quite the rebel.

However, his morals are not tied up in his honour as a gentleman, which he takes very seriously. He does not steal from his host (though he will befriend someone in order to rob them), he often tells Bunny to "never give a woman away", and he would rather become a thief than to dirty his hands with a job below his station. He believes strongly in "honour among thieves" which he relies on in one memorable occasion and treats the entire thing like a game - making carrying a loaded gun "unsportsmanlike", but having to kill someone always a possibility in order to win. Indeed, he once mentions that he has always wanted to try killing someone just to experience the feeling for himself, and when Bunny holds a gun to his head to kill himself during their first meeting Raffles is entranced and excited by the prospect before he can catch himself.

This seemingly insatiable desire for excitement and romance has been nearly his end more than once, as he is the type to hear "it's not possible" as a challenge. It also reveals a little glimpse at his political leanings, though his Robin Hood-like statement is not really about redistributing wealth from the rich to the poor but rather from the rich to himself and Bunny. He has more than a little disdain for the upper classes which often contributes to who he chooses to steal from; the fact that he is only asked for in high society because of his cricket irks him to no end. And yet, he still goes. At the end of the day, he enjoys being popular more than it hurts his pride.

When Bunny first visits Raffles in his suicidal frenzy after admitting to his bankruptcy he notes that Raffles' apartment is furnished not as one would expect a sportsman's to be, with awards and old cricket bats hanging around, but rather with rich prints from the pre-Raphaelites, antique bookcases, and silver diningware. Raffles it not your typical bone-headed jock and often shows a little impatience with those who are not as culturally literate as he. What is emphasized again and again is the similarity between his skilled bowling on the cricket field and his skill as a thief. Both require nerve, confidence, self-control, physical endurance, practised skill, and not a little amount of luck. Of course, this results in also no little amount of ego, and it's likely that Raffles takes on Bunny's hardships with his own in that first meeting so that someone else could admire and appreciate his talents after dark.

[series]: Kyuuketsu Yuugi
[character]: Yuujel Zi Alda (Also known as Yujinn)
[character history / background]:
Yuujel was born into Zi Alda as a son of the Lady Sonia of the Royal House of Phelios, and a man that she met. Of course, the issue of their love was an absolute turmoil, because those in the royal family marry off into the royal family, but Lady Sonia did not marry a cousin, but a man that she loved dearly. Little is known about Yuujel's father, since he died at an early age. Lady Sonia had been raising him since he was an infant. Yuujel was the only heir to the Zi Alda throne, both good looking at a young age and charming. He had all the little girls screaming out his name and staring at his abstract beauty of violet eyes and silvery gray locks of hair. When he had first met Princess Ishtar for the first time, it was love at first sight. He has been chasing after her ever since.

His best friends at that time was Leene, a young girl who always had her hair in pigtails. She was madly in love with him that at some point, she forced him to commit suicide with her, which, the results weren't as she wanted, his best friend Ashley of the Zi Alda Military. He is a strategic and tactical young man that Yuujel looks into for information revolving around his own investigations, and Lucy, a young woman who has all the young girls fascinated in her. Lucy is someone who Yuujel kept in contact for a long time with, when he was in Pheliosta. He is often seen talking with her through a ruelle mirror. He knew at a young age that Ishtar was and still deadly in love with Darres, of the Royal Guard, Yuujel knew that he would be shoved away if he appeared like any other wanting a hand in marriage with Ishtar. Instead, Yuujel disguises himself as one of Ishtar‘s personal magic tutor, with the help of Keld. He meets Ishtar again after a few longs years.

It was also rumoured back at home. Yuujel had affairs with men and women alike, and sparked a flame in those people that allowed them to continuously hunt him down and attempt to take him back with them. As Ishtar's Magic teacher, he is quite the charming guy, flattering the princess with a lot of his corny lines. Yuujel is a good informer. He is capable of digging up the smallest details to the biggest secret of events or problems that he is involved. in. As the heir to Zi Alda, he played the role of a simple magic teacher with the help of Keld. From La Naan to Rezenia, he was always there to assist them, give them advice and also amuse himself every now and then with the people there. During the La Naan Arc, Yuujel gives Darres a magic mirror saying it can only be used once and that he should use it for emergencies.

Instead, Darres used it halfway through used the mirror and gained some knowledge from Yuujel. Yuujel also warns Darres the second time that he attempted to use the mirror that there are chances the conversations they were having were going to be shown out to powerful magicians. During the stay in La Naan, Yuujel was able to tell Darres that neither of the three princes are eligible for Ishtar’s hand in marriage, that they are frauds. Even through the various events involving Yuujel and the dreaded Lassen, Yuujel was able to uncover most of his plans and be able to play against Lassen. Though the end of the thirteenth volume of the manga, Yuujel is killed in Lassen’s room by the possessed King of Rezenia.

It shows how much of a threat he was to Lassen, and that once Yuujel was out of the way, there were more chances for Lassen to spark a war. Though despite who would die, even if it wasn’t Yuujel. It was inevitable war against Pheliosta and Rezenia. Yuujel was basically a pawn, and a piece of the puzzle for Lassen. Also as stated in the manga, Yuujel has the weakest link to the royal family, other than Seiliez, his blood relations to the House of Phelios is very small. Keld wishes for him to marry Ishtar because it would strengthen his connection to the royal family and give Ishtar the strongest possible child. Ishtar mentioned somewhere that Keld also wanted Yuujel to marry the Princess because Keld had a relation to the man that married Yuujel’s mother, Lady Sonia.

[character abilities]:
Yuujel is very good at magic. He is able to cast powerful holy magic on vampires and even the living dead. The only thing that he isn’t good at is his cardio. He’s not very vigorous so it is also his weakness. Yuujel is good at far range and close range combat. He doesn’t fight with a weapon, but mostly his magic. He is also a very good teacher, and able to teach magic, to people, even Ishtar. He is also very intelligent, and strategic, so he is able to interpret and plot out most of the solutions to many problems in Pheliosta. Most the time, Darres and the gang always go to Yuujel for information. He is capable of obtaining and using it to his advantage. As seen in the manga, he isn’t the fastest and swiftest fighter. He could dodge and easily move around, but he lacks guile and speed.

He always seems to have a face of innocence whenever he stands in front of people, as if he wasn't up to anything. Yuujel's charm and kindness is also something he posses, that allows people to be drawn to him. He has also a good sense that allows him to know when things have gone bad, or if there is a warning that something unpleasant might happen.
[character personality]:
Yuujel is a very intelligent and strategic person. He isn’t the bad guy, nor is he the good guy, but he plays the role of the go between for both parties of Ishtar and Darres, as well as various others of La Naan, like Vord, and Zi Alda, like assistance and helping out Ashley as well as getting his help in return. Yuujel is a very kind person as well, very loving and caring towards the people closest to him. He is also very calculative and dangerous when he wants to be.

He is also seen as an eyesore to Lassen, and even Duzell has bad feelings about Yuujel, seemingly because of his stealthy nature. Yuujel is also very observant, so he is able to see the situation and find a solution for it. He can also tell others if they can take on a certain type of challenge, or if it is futile to try. Yuujel also has a bad personality of loving people he cannot have. As displayed in the manga, Yuujel is love with Ishtar when she was younger, and he still loves her, but Ishtar doesn’t love him back. When he went to Pheliosta, he found someone else that he loved, and that was Darres, Ishtar’s love and interest. He always seems to want what he couldn’t get. He also stated to Leene that if she was really in love with Ashley, he would have fallen in love with her, but if she did love him or in any case, Ishtar or Darres would love him in return, the spell would be broken and he would find someone else to love.

[series]: Full Metal Alchemist
[character]: Lt. Riza Hawkeye
[character history / background]: Can be found here: "http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Riza_Hawkeye"

[character abilities]: Riza is a well known sniper with lethal accuracy. She is a lieutenant in the army and has military training for combat and administration. In a less formally trained sense, she is a master at micromanaging errant colonels and keeping a cool head when in a crisis.

[character personality]: Riza has a need for order. Everything has a place. She carries an appointment book with her that has her schedule for the day, and keeps lists to keep herself (and everyone around her) on track. Despite her need for order, Riza is hard to upset. She has seen a lot in her life, and should the building explode, she would be the one to pull out her book and start calmly taking a head count. Her persona at work is calm, friendly, and polite, but professional and distant. Outside of work, and with those rare coworkers that are close to her, she is more relaxed and open. Riza is a dog lover, loves romance novels that she will never admit to, and dislikes early mornings despite her long history with the military. She’s not the easiest to befriend, but she is the ideal person to know in a crisis. She will always have her friend’s back.

She has demonstrated an unerring loyalty to her team, and in particular her General. She is frequently found being the voice of reason and protects her fearless leader as needed. Even from himself. Despite the eye rolls and frustrated sighs, she genuinely believes in him and his mission.

Riza Hawkeye - pt 2/2

[journal post]:

The layout of this city is far from ideal. It's inefficient and would cause chaos in a seige. I'm surprised no one else has noticed. At some point there should be a plan to have this corrected to a more practical grid layout. This would also make deliveries more efficient and navigation easier for the residents.

I'll leave the proposal on your desk, sir. Along with the other papers that you have due for tomorrow, and the ones that were technically due for today before I was able to get that extension.

[Private]

I think I'll need to go to the range tomorrow night.

[third person / log sample]:

Boots clicked as Riza walked down the hallway, her attention focused on the reports in her hands. Over the years she had gained the almost eerie ability to dodge oncoming traffic and even spot superior officers without actually looking up from her reading material. It was one of the tricks that made her efficient enough to keep the General's team on track. She stepped to the side and snapped to attention as some officers walked past, then returned to her brisk pace.

The General wasn't in yet, but that was not a surprise. The lieutenant moved around the office, switching on lamps. She had come in early to deal with a back log of reports that had come from a rash of training excercises. If she had everything in place and started when the rest of the team came in, she'd have the upper hand and a realistic chance of getting all of her tasks accomplished.

The sun was just coming over the buildings, and Riza paused to look out the window. She wasn't actually a morning person. She would have rather slept in with Black Hayate under the warm blankets, but there were things she needed to do. As much as the team would drive her to distraction, and her general would drink, procrastinate, and womanize the day away, it was the most important thing in the world to her. General Mustang was going to make a difference, and she was going to help. Whether that meant with her rifle or a pen, it didn't matter.

Even though she prefered the rifle.

[character history / background]: Not much is known about Chester's parents save for the fact that they were both inhabitants of the village Toltus. Growing up as an orphan along with his little sister, Amy, Chester had always been the subject of the villager's kindness; something he had always appreciated. He was especially dedicated to his sister, Amy, as well as Cless Alvein, his best friend within the village. All was well until one corrupt knight by the name of Mars burnt down the village of Toltus while Chester and Cless was out hunting at a nearby forest. Hearing the warning bells, the two rushed back to Toltus—only to find that the village had been burned to the ground, and its inhabitants, massacred.

Hysterical at the village's decimation, Chester and Cless separate with harsh words on Chester's part. Upon hearing of Cless' capture by the same troops that had burnt their village down, Chester decides to go to his friend's rescue and take down revenge—taking down two birds with one stone. Upon arrival, it's revealed to Chester, Cless, and a newly met Mint Adnade that they've been wrapped up in something much bigger than they had initially thought: the revival of the Demon King Dhaos. At that time, Morrison, a hermit mage also captured by the enemy, decides to send both Cless and Mint to the past in order to gain the necessary power, resources, and experience to defeat Dhaos. Chester, on the other hand, decides to stay behind and buy some time for the pair, having faith in Cless to come back to defeat Dhaos.

For Cless and Mint, it was a matter of months before they got back to Chester. For Chester, it was a matter of agonizing minutes going up against the Dhaos with the bow and arrow.

Upon his rescue by Cless and his companions, Chester is put to bed with injuries that leave him physically weak. And when Cless and the others are called to the future by a time-traveler to once again defeat Dhaos, Chester pushes himself into the party, despite his injuries. At this time, Chester becomes more and more frustrated regarding the gap between himself and Cless—something that had become apparent in a matter of months for Cless, but mere minutes for Chester—and pushes himself to become better.

And the adventure continues, because being one of the main characters, this issue is soon resolved with a lot of power leveling. :')

All the unnecessary details about Dhaos not really being the Dhaos that they were going after are revealed after the guy's defeat (derp derp derp), but unfortunately Chester is a simpleton and doesn't care much about that, so it's disregarded on his part. Regardless, by the end of the game, he returns to his own time with Cless and Mint, deciding to rebuild the village of Toltus.

I know you guys have already seen this, but here is the timeline for like half the stuff I typed about because this stuff confuses me too. :(

[character history / background]:
It’s not who you are underneath. It’s what you do that defines you.

Cliché as it may be, she was first introduced to the storyline as Bruce’s childhood friend. Often playing with him at Wayne manor while her mother worked as a servant there, they grew inexplicably close. As they were running through the yard one day, Rachel came upon an arrowhead and proclaimed "finders keepers and I found it!" when Bruce asked to see it, despite having found it in his garden. He took it from her in typical childish fashion, running to hide behind an old well that he accidentally fell into. Thankfully, the boy was saved and life continued as usual – that is, until one night changed their lives forever. At gunpoint, Bruce was robbed of his father’s wallet, mother’s jewelry – and his parent’s lives. Too frightened to remain working at the manor, Rachel’s mother then swept them both away without the slightest intention of returning again. Not to be deterred, the two still kept in brief contact, though it was not until the court hearing for the death of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne that we again see them both together, only this time grown up.

Always the ambitious young woman (and most likely fueled by a need for justice while living in such a turbulent city), Rachel enrolled in law school. It was with hard earned dedication to that degree that earned her an internship at the Gotham City District Attorney’s office in her senior year. With it, she fully intended to dedicate her life to the cause for justice despite the corruption that riddled the Gotham law system. Joe Chill, the man who murdered the Waynes so many years ago, later stood trial to testify against mob boss Carmine Falcone. It was there that Rachel was reunited with Bruce once more, and discovered that he intended to murder Chill himself had he not already been taken out for testifying against the mafia earlier that day. Despite everything – their friendship, the validity of wanting to defend one’s family – she made it clear that revenge is no means to govern and only doing so will breed more criminals.

Bruce later fled the country, and Rachel heard no more of him until seven years following. By then, she was the Assistant District Attorney and locked testifying for a third time against a one Dr. Crane’s claims that several of the mob’s criminals were clinically insane (which then kept them out of jail). It appeared as if she was having a tough time convincing her superiors that justice, however risky in the face of the powerful mob, was better than simply standing by as the murderers were let off. Seeing Bruce again was, for the first time, not a pleasure in the least. His fabricated façade as the playboy businessman disappointed her, and she said as much when she claimed he had changed since the last time they were reunited.

For all her efforts as an idealist however, Rachel did not have time to speak with her old friend as she was then targeted by the mafia (thanks to Dr. Crane) for her unyielding stand against those being tried in court. She was saved from a deadly injection of the doctor’s fear toxin by the Batman, who also stopped the city from falling completely under the affects of the drug. Before he left however, he repeated something she once said "It’s not who I am underneath. It’s what I do that defines me" that immediately revealed the connection between the Batman and her childhood friend.

[series]: Tales of Rebirth
[character]: Tytree Crowe
[character history / background]:
When Tytree is first heard of in the game, he is found in the town Petjanandka - specifically, in the nearby factory. Saleh, a member of The Royal Guard, had been going around and taking Huma girls. In the case of Petjanandka, these girls were all taken to the factory that resides in the town, and Tytree's sister was among them. The factory manager and Tytree had gone in to negotiate so that they could get the girls released.

Selena, Tytree's sister, was taken because she was declared to be the prettiest girl in the group - and after that was declared, the manager of the factory noted that there was a giant tree vine that grew out from the floor of the factory! And it looked like it was trying to take Selena back from everyone. His Force was a bit out of control, desperately trying to save his sister from being taken away. His force had gone berserk.

The party then goes into the factory to work on Operation: Save Tytree. They make it through the factory, burning the various plants that get in their way before finally meeting Tytree. Veigue releases him with his Force of Ice and Tytree is still going berserk, worried about his sister. So that's when they decide to fight him and knock him out of his berserk state. When knocked out of this berserk state, he goes back to normal and is filled in on what happens.

That's when he decides that he's going to go with them! Since he wants to rescue his sister, he wants to join and help them along their journey. With their job done in the factory they head back out - and he vows to beat the snot out the enemy to rescue the girls. With their work in Petjanandka, they decide to head out to Sannytown.

On the way to Sannytown, the party discovers that they the service they were planning on using is out of commission. They decide to go look for some wood to help out the Gugura, but they decide to eat - and leave most of the cooking to Tytree. Everyone goes out to pick the mushrooms and find the wood. While everyone is busy, Tytree is approached by a strange man with a bottle of poison, saying that if he gives it to his traveling companions, he'll get his sister back.

After the mushrooms are given to Tytree, he goes off to make his mushroom stew and the lumber is given to Gugura so that he can fix up the rafts. Everyone goes into the nearby hut so that they can eat, although Veigue - due to having seen the scene between the weird guy and Tytree a bit earlier, is a bit cautious when it comes to eating the food. They go back out to find that there's something going on with Gugura, and end up chasing some weird guys so that they can do something about it. Everyone suspects him of eating the mushrooms, and he starts laughing!

... And he is slowly followed by everyone who ate the soup Tytree had made. He didn't serve his friends the poison, and Annie confirms that he didn't do anything. It really turns out that they had all eaten a poisonous mushroom that grows in the area - a laughing mushroom. Tytree had mixed up the poisonous mushrooms and the normal ones when telling them what to pick. It's after this that they can head out and towards Sannytown.

It is there that they discover that they're unable to travel where they want to, due to the port being under military control - therefore, all public traffic has been suspended. Tytree gets a bit pissed off at the military guy because he won't hand over the information regarding the Huma girls, and the party manages to keep him from getting arrested. It's not too much later that they meet a woman that says that her daughter was kidnapped - and they agree to help her. They find Hilda soon, and she says that she managed to escape from Saleh. They then sense Force outside and they head out to see what's up.

Mao; Tales of Rebirth [2/11]
[info]axaroffle
2009-06-19 02:12 am UTC (link)
[character history / background]: Mao is introduced as a young Huma boy with amnesia that controls the Force of Fire. Force is a power that was previously only found in Gajuma, allowing the users to control an element of some sort, whether it is something cliché like fire or something as strange as Force of Rainbow. When the King substitutes his own life to emit his Force on the Setting Sun of Ladras, Force awakens in both Gajuma and Huma alike where it had been dormant, thus birthing Huma Force Users. Though Mao is a bit of an exception, but we’ll get to that later.

During the Setting Sun of Ladras, Mao’s Force of Fire supposedly awoke and went out of control. It was at this time that it was assumed that he lost his memories. Eugene Gallardo, at the time Commander of the King’s Shield, names him and takes him in, enlisting him into Karegia’s military as one of his subordinates. Due to the fact that Eugene had saved him, Mao is indebted and follows Eugene wherever he may go. This holds true when Eugene is exiled from the military due to a certain incident, and Mao is labeled as a deserter when he follows after him, even though Eugene told him to stay. Eugene is also very much a father figure to Mao, which is reiterated time and again with how Mao cares for him.

He embarks with Eugene on a journey to find other Force users in order to unveil the truth surrounding the Setting Sun of Ladras and what caused the disaster. When the game begins, he and Eugene are arriving in Sulz to recruit Veigue Lungberg for their cause. Veigue is found sitting in a building covered in ice, watching over Claire, his childhood friend, who is encased in ice. Mao beats the crap out of Veigue to get him to listen, since he’s obstinate as hell. Veigue discovers that Mao has power similar to his own, and they explain that this power is ‘Force’. Mao melts the ice around Claire.

With Claire returned to normal and introductions made, Claire invites them to eat and then heads off for home. Eugene and Mao mention to Veigue that they need to talk to him about important matters, and request that they talk somewhere calm. They head off to Claire’s house to talk and let Mao eat, since his appetites seems to hinge on how much Force he uses. After a long explanation of the world’s events up to date, Popura, a Gajuma living in Sulz that acts as an Aunt to Claire and Veigue, charges into the house with a peach pie to celebrate Claire’s un-icing. After the pie distraction, Mao and Eugene request Veigue’s help in uncovering the truth behind the disastrous state of the world. Veigue declines.

The conversation is interrupted when Claire’s father runs in to report that a group of armed people has entered Sulz. Mao and company rush out to find Tohma and Saleh of the Four Stars. They are searching for beautiful Huma girls. Saleh and Tohma kidnap Claire. Mao, Veigue, and Eugene leave Sulz in order to rescue her.

While journeying, Mao fills out the party’s Battle Book, proving that beyond being a happy chatterbox, he is surprisingly responsible about keeping up to date with everything that they encounter. But, of course, that doesn’t keep him from humming and singing while he fills it out. He refers to it as a way of ‘making memories’, since he doesn’t have any of his own from his past.

After crossing over the Great Larulen Bridge and meeting the Dark Wings for the first time in a comical confrontation, they stay at the Keketto Hostel for the night. Mao is heard to be having strange dreams, mumbling about the ‘the power of seven’ and ‘I am the eyes’, though upon waking he forgets what he dreamed - this is a reoccurring event throughout the game until Mao learns about who he is. When the party wakes, the innkeeper, who is under Waltu’s Force of Sound manipulation, attacks them. Waltu is another member of the Four Stars. They meet with Waltu outside. Waltu says that Huma girls are being collected by orders of Queen Agarte and that the girls are safe. They hurry away from the hostel to save Claire.
